Foreign affairs Venkata mohan

india's stand on Kashmir is completely unjustified. The congress leaders wanted to impose secularism on the Kashmiris. Nehru depended on Sheikh Abdullah, leader of National Conference. The instrument of accession was signed by a badly scared fleeing leader and Nehru pledged to hold a referendum with the Kashmiris. India took the matter to UN. UNSC passes resolutions for the conduct of plebiscite between 1948 and 1957, which were vetoed by USSR. Elections were held in 1951 - Abdullah won but deposed after 2 years, and then arrested for 22 years. Bakshi Gulam Mohammed replace him and was elected in 1962, only to be deposed 2 years later. Sheikh Abdullah was released in 1974 and made CM and died in 1982. Farooq Abdullah, his son, became CM in 1983, but he went down due to split in his party. He compromised with Congress and became CM in 1986. Muslim United Front emerged demanding autonomy, which was cracked down. As a result terrorism started in later 80s.
